About Estimate My Wealth

Estimate My Wealth is an independent website based in the UK. We built it because most retirement calculators hide their assumptions, use out-of-date figures, or only look at one pension. We wanted one that shows its working.

What we do

We make free calculators that help people in the UK understand their own money: their pensions, savings, property and what it all adds up to. The first is the UK Retirement and Wealth Calculator. More are on the way.

Where our figures come from

• UK rules and rates — the State Pension, State Pension age, tax bands, ISA and pension allowances — come from GOV.UK and HMRC.
• Retirement targets come from the Retirement Living Standards published by Pensions UK and Loughborough University.
• Growth, cash interest and inflation assumptions are based on the FCA’s projection rules, Bank of England data and the ONS. Where no official figure exists, we say the number is our own estimate.

Each figure on the calculator shows its source and the date we last checked it.

How we keep it up to date

We review every figure after each Budget, at the start of each tax year in April, and each June when the Retirement Living Standards are updated. If a rule changes in between, we update as soon as we can.

How we test it

We compare our results with the government-backed MoneyHelper pension calculator using the same example person. On a like-for-like run our projected pension pot came within about 1.3% of theirs, and the State Pension date and amount matched exactly. The small differences come from different assumptions, which we explain on the calculator.
